Edward (Ed) Wolfe,
80, a native of Escondido and former Major League Baseball player, passed
away Tuesday, March 3, 2009.
Ed graduated from Escondido Union High School in 1946 and then served
for two years as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, spending a year in
Japan.
Following his discharge from the service, he enrolled at Fullerton Junior
College, where he signed a baseball contract to pitch for the Pittsburgh
Pirates' minor league team in Indianapolis. His career as a pitcher
spanned eight seasons at Modesto, Bartlesville, OK, Charleston, SC,
New Orleans, with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League, and
concluding with the Hollywood Stars of the old Pacific Coast League
in 1954 and 1955.
Interment has been set for 1 p.m., Monday, March 16, at Oak Hill Memorial
Park, Escondido.
