Elmer W. 'Dutch' Weingartner, was Indians' shortstop in 1945 The Cleveland
Plain Dealer Elmer W. "Dutch" Weingartner played 20 games at shortstop for the Cleveland Indians. He batted 39 times in 1945 with a .231 average. Five years earlier, he'd spent two months on the White Sox without a turn to play. Weingartner died March 15 at age 90. He graduated from John Marshall High School and lived nearby for decades before moving to Wesleyan Village in Elyria. He spent several years in the minor leagues and later worked fixing appliances. Survivors include his wife and daughter. Dostal Funeral Services is handling his arrangements. |
