Joe Szekely,
70, 3260 Allen, died at 3:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 1995, in St. Joseph's
Hospital & Health Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Fry & Gibbs
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Starnes, the Rev. Art Smith and
mike Lippiatt officiating. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home.
Mr. Szekely was born Feb. 2, 1925, in Cleveland, OH, a son of Nicholas
and Eleanor Szanto Szekely. He attended Shaker Heights school in Cleveland
and Baylor University.
During World War II he served in the Army. He married Marion Wilson
Nov. 3, 1946.
He had played professional baseball with the Big State League, Texas
League and Cincinnati Reds. When he retired from baseball, he became
manager of the first cable company in Paris, Midwest Video, and served
there for 12 years. He was a sales representative with Share Corp. until
retiring in 1987.
In retirement, he worked at the pro shop at the Paris Golf and Country
Club. Joe was past president of the Paris Lions Club, had been involved
in Boy's Baseball and Teen League as coach and commissioner. He had
received the Distinguished Service Award and Optimist Man of the Year.
He served on the Paris Junior College Board of Regents from 1963 through
1968.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Johnny Holleman
of Paris; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Kim Szekely of New Braunfels;
two grandchildren, Amy Holleman of Paris and Shelby Szekely of New Braunfels;
and two brothers, Nick Szekely and Chester Szekely, both of Cleveland,
OH.
Pallbearers will be Dr. William Hayden, Frank Homer, Larry Click, John
Wright, Dr. James Brunette and Jake Coker.
Memorials may be made to the PJC Mike Reinhardt Scholarship Fund, First
United Methodist Church or Paris Education Foundation.'
