Schultz Sr. August 2, 2004 Mike Schultz Sr., 83, died Monday at home in
East Syracuse. While at Central High School, he was a scholar athlete
who received a scholarship to Cornell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army
during World War 2. He was a pitcher with the Syracuse Chiefs, Rochester
Red Wings and the Cincinnati Reds. He spent many years as a terminal manager
in the trucking industry. He was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church.
He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Smerznak Schultz,
and son Ronald, who both died 2003. Survived by a son, Michael Jr. (Jane)
of Norwich; sister, Vera (Schultz) Welsh of Syracuse; daughter-in-law,
Janet O'Mara Schultz; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral
services are Friday at 11:30 a.m. in St Matthew's Church. Burial in St.
Mary's Mausoleum. Calling hours are Thursday 6 to 9 p.m. at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson
Funeral Home, 3111 James St. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made
to St. Matthew's Church.
