Former Major Leaguer Passes On, Was once Traded for Piniella

CLEARWATER, Fla.--Former major league pitcher Leslie F. "Buster" Narum passed away Monday at his home in Clearwater where he was under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.

The 63-year old Narum was a native of Philadelphia, Pa. and moved to Clearwater in 1943.

The right-hander pitched in all or part of five major league seasons from 1963-1967 with the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Senators. He compiled a 14-27 record with a 4.45 ERA.

Narum hit just .059 during his career in 118 at bats with all three of his extra base hits being homers, including his first and only major league at bat in 1963.

Narum was traded by the Orioles to the Senators on March 31, 1964 for a player to be named later. The trade was completed on August 4, 1964 when the Senators sent present Tampa Bay Devil Ray’s manager Lou Piniella to the Orioles.

Narum is survived by his wife of 34-years, Mary, a daughter Shelly Herring of Redington Shores, Fla. a son Douglas, St. Petersburg, Fla. and a sister Letty Lou Gulick, Green Cove Springs, Fla.

Arrangements are being handled by the National Cremation Society in Largo, Fla. according to the St. Petersburg Times, Clearwater Time edition of May 19, 2004.
