Fred Moncewicz, Was Comptroller
for Bay State
Frederick A. Moncewicz of 73
North Quincy St., former state comptroller, died this afternoon in
Cardinal Cushing Hospital. He was 65.
A
well-known athlete, he starred at Brockton High School and Boston College
as an infielder. He also played semi-pro baseball and was with the Red Sox
for a time. He was first named to the post of comptroller by Gov. Maurice
J. Tobin in 1946 and served continuously until 1958, when he retired
because of his health.
Prior to his post he served as a member of the
State Appellate Tax Board for six months, assistant director of the
Municipal Survey Committee at City Hall in Boston and organizer and
instructor in unemployment security law for the University Extension
Service and was a law instructor at Portia Law School.
Funeral
arrangements will be announced from the Russell Funeral Home, 165 Belmont
St., Brockton. |
