Robert Frederick Spry
died with his loved ones at his side, Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Hospital
of Saint Raphael following a long illness. Born May 20, 1934, he was the
son of Rita (Gosch) and Frederick Spry. He grew up in Stratford overlooking
Longbrook Park, and graduated from Stratford High in 1952.
Upon graduation, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies as a pitcher
in their farm division. He played baseball until he enlisted in the United
States Army. He served from 1953 to 1955 as a military police officer.
After he returned, he continued to play baseball. He later embarked on
a 34 year career with the Southern New England Telephone Company. He began
as an installer and retired in 1991 as a division manager.
His favorite activity was playing golf. He also enjoyed many visits with
his daughters and their families, and his friends.
He is survived by his beloved companion, Linda Silva of Bethany; three
daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Jed Dinnan of Juneau, AK; Laura and
David Treat of Hampstead, NH; Sharon and Jeff Skinner of Danville, N.H.;
their mother, Joan Spry of Exeter, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Tyler and
Wesley Dinnan; Melissa and Kylie Treat; Hayley, Samuel and Nicholas Skinner;
his sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Clifford Kristiansen of Stratford;
and many nieces and nephews.
Family will greet friends on Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 3 to 4 p.m.,
followed by a memorial service at the Lupinski Funeral Home, 821 State
Street, New Haven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bob's name to
the Saint Raphael Foundation, 1450 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT 06511
or the Stratford Youth Sports Association, c/o Sterling House, 2283 Main
Street, Stratford, CT 06615.
