L.D. "Little Dutch" Meyer, 87, a retired
baseball player having played for the Detroit Tigers and the
Cleveland Browns and also a local businessman, passed away, Sunday,
Jan. 19, 2003, in Fort Worth.
Funeral: Noon Wednesday in the Chapel of Shannon's Funeral Home.
No visitation.
L.D. was born Oct. 6, 1915 in Waco, Texas. He was raised there
and went to TCU, where he scored all the TCU points in the first
Cotton Bowl game when TCU played Marquette and won 16-6. Afterwards,
L.D. had a Major League baseball career which was interrupted by
service to his country during World War II. After completing his
baseball career, L.D. then served as an executive for Panther
Chemical Company until he retired in 1982. He spent his remaining
years enjoying his children, grandchildren and his passion for fly
fishing.
L.D. was loved and respected by his family and will be greatly
missed.
Survivors: Children, David Meyer and his wife, Michelle of
Colleyville and Daniel Meyer and his wife, Shelley of Katy; five
