SAMUEL M. "Sammy" MEEKS, 85, of Memphis, passed away Monday, April 23, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Memphis. A Memorial service will be held April 26, Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Forest Hill East Funeral Home on Whitten Road. He is survived by his wife, Martha Meeks of Memphis; two daughters, Midge Turner Swink of Humboldt, TN and Martha Meeks Benjamin of Memphis; two sons, Sammy J. Meeks of Memphis and David H. Meeks of Memphis. He is also survived by two brothers; two sisters; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Sammy served in the Navy and then went into professional and minor league baseball. He played shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds and the Atlanta Crackers and was beloved by many Memphis Chicks fans and Chickasaw Buddies in the mid-50's.
