The Obit For Bob Kammeyer

Bob Kammeyer

The Sacramento Bee  2/5/2003

Born December 2, 1950, in Kansas City, KS. Died suddenly January 27, 2003, in Sacramento, CA. Bob was raised in Richardson, TX, and earned a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University.

Drafted as a pitcher by the New York Yankees in 1972, Bob played nine seasons in that organization, seeing action in the major leagues during the 1978 and 1979 seasons. He debuted in the big leagues against the Boston Red Sox in Fenway Park on Monday Night Baseball. Four of Bob's AAA teams won championships, Bob's contribution earning him induction into the International League Hall of Fame. Two of his records still stand.

During his baseball years, Bob also earned his CPA certificate, which led to a position with Peat Marwick, Mitchell after Bob's retirement from baseball. His post-baseball career also took him to American Savings Bank, New York Life Insurance Co., the State Board of Equalization, and Assoc. Sales Tax Consultants. Bob's passions always remained his family and sports. He coached his children's youth soccer teams and little league and high school baseball. In a perfect world, Bob would have spent his time teaching little kids to play baseball.

Recently he returned to playing ball in the Men's Senior Hardball leagues, winning another championship ring in 2000 with the California Gold at a Florida tournament. Bob was an avid conservationist, traveler, and outdoorsman. He loved to read the history of a location then go see it. Bob volunteered time and money at Maryhouse and Loaves and Fishes and donated blood regularly.

Bob will be missed by his son Kevin and wife Rosanna of Sacramento, son Mickey and wife Elisa of Stanford, and daughter Kaity and fiance Tom Kahle of San Francisco, his beautiful granddaughters Nadia and Jordan, his parents Robert and Margielayne Kammeyer, his sisters Louise Cochran and Rose Chambers, his brother Keith Kammeyer, five nieces and nephews, and his former wife Francine. Friends are invited to join Bob's family and to share memories at his Memorial Service on Friday, February 7, 2003 at 11:00 am at the George L. Klumpp Chapel of Flowers, Riverside Blvd. and 2nd Avenue.

Consistent with Bob's wishes, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, any remembrances be made to Maryhouse or Loaves and Fishes (charitable organizations in Sacramento) or an organization for the preservation of the environment.
