Victor O. Johnson, 84, 1515 Drury Avenue, Eau Claire, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Luther Hospital Eau Claire.

Vic was born August 3, 1920, in Eau Claire to Ole and Sophie (Grosvold) Johnson. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School and attended college in Eau Claire. He was a left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox from 1944 to 1946 and Cleveland Indians from 1946 to 1947. After leaving baseball, he worked at the YMCA and then the recreation department at UW-Eau Claire. During his long career in sports, he influenced many of the youth of Eau Claire and leaves them all with fond memories of his fairness and Christian ethics. He was also very active at Landmark Christian Church where he was an elder, teacher and spiritual leader.

Vic is survived by his daughter, Vicki Kressin; his grandson, Greg (Michelle) Kressin; and two great-grandsons, Jace William and Trevin Victor Kressin; his brother, Don Johnson; sisters-in-law, Betty Palmer and Winifred Krause; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Arlene; parents, Ole and Sophie; sisters, Mirelda and Evelyn; and brothers, Sigurd, Mark, Palmer, Ralph and Harold.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2005, at Landmark Christian Church in Hallie with Pastor Brad Crocker leading the celebration of Vic’s life.

Friends may call at Fuller-Speckien Funeral Home Thursday evening from 4 until 7 p.m., and at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.
