PONCE-Ramon Herndez, one of the best relief pitchers of Puerto Rican baseball died on Wednesday, age 68 years. Hernandez debuted in the Major Leagues on April 11, 1967 with the Atlanta Braves.

His best season was in 1972 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, when, as a reliever, he won five games without defeat and a 1.67 ERA and 14 saves.

During his 11 season career he also pitched for the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox. He also pitched professionally in Puerto Rico for Ponce, Caguas, Arecibo, Mayagüez, San Juan and Bayamo. In 21 professional seasons he recorded 58 victories and 46 defeats with a 2.75 ERA.
