Eisenstat dead at 87.c The Associated Press 03/23/03 15:13 EST SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) - Harry Eisenstat, a former major league
pitcher who beat the Indians' Bob Feller in one of the Hall of Famer's
most dominating games, has died. He was 87.Eisenstat, who lived
in suburban Cleveland, died Friday at the Montefiore Home in neighboring
Beachwood. No cause of death was given.
In the final game of the 1938 season, Eisenstat took a no-hitter into the eighth inning as the Detroit Tigers beat the Indians 4-1. Feller struck out 18, but lost because he allowed seven walks and seven hits. The Tigers traded Eisenstat to the Indians the following season for future Hall of Fame outfielder Earl Averill. Eisenstat had a 25-27 career record in 165 appearances from 1935 to 1942, starting his major league career with Brooklyn, his team from 1935 to 1937. Eisenstat, a Brooklyn native, is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Rosenberg; a daughter, Linda Joseph; and four grandchildren.
