LEXINGTON - Services
for James Michael Derrick, Sr., 65, of Lexington, will be held at 9
a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Brookland United Methodist Church.
Officiating will be Dr. Charles Westbrook, Rev. Carol Cannon and Rev.
Robert Cannon. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at Thompson
Funeral Home of Lexington. Pallbearers will be Les Bass, Farell Carey,
Don Harwell, Basil Mack, Trey Derrick, Travis Derrick, Donald Clark
and Dave Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Clark, Sr., Bobby Peake,
Dick Williams and Danny Rucker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made to Saluda River Baptist Church, 3459 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia,
SC 29169 or Brookland United Methodist Church, 541 Meeting Street, West
Columbia, SC 29169.
Mr. Derrick loving
husband of Jackie Derrick, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009.
Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late James Henry and Doris E.
Wingate Derrick. He was a lifetime area resident and a member of Brookland
United Methodist Church. Mr. Derrick retired from Cayce Welding and
Ornamental Iron. He was a 4 sports letterman at Brookland-Cayce High
School, he played pro baseball for 11 years, including the Boston Red
Sox. He coached American Legion Baseball to two State Championships.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids,
to whom he was affectionately known as Gaga.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Jackie Derrick Me ma
of Lexington, are daughter, Wendy Derrick-McKinley Wilbur
(Mac) of Lexington, Christy Derrick Pooh-bear of West Columbia;
son, Mike Derrick, Jr. Bubsy (Ann) of Irmo; five grandchildren,
Trey and Travis Derrick, Eydie, Luke and Mya McKinley; sisters, Donna
Jarvis (Bobby) of Columbia, Jane Westbrook (Charles) of West Columbia,
Jean Rivers (Rick) of Lexington.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Leon Curry,
Dr. James Fant, Dr. Theodore Law, Dr. Craig Cauthen, Dr. Mushtau, Linda
Byars, (Chemo Nurse), and Providence Hospital Nurses on the 6th and
2nd floors.
