Services
for Claude Arthur Crocker, former Vice President of Clinton Mills Inc.,
78, will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, at First Presbyterian Church in
Clinton, with burial at Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive
friends, in the Church Parlor, at the conclusion of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Presbyterian College
Scotsman Club.
Gray Funeral Home of Clinton is in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Crocker, husband of the late Myra Adair Crocker,
died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002. He was the son of the late Lillie Jones and
Horace Laffeyette Crocker. He attended the University of North Carolina,
playing football, baseball and basketball. He pitched professionally for
minor league Asheville Tourist and Major League Brooklyn Dodgers. He
returned to South Carolina to coach at Presbyterian College, and with the
Clinton Mill Cavaliers.
An active civic leader, he was active in
Statewide Democratic Politics, and was awarded the Order of the Palmetto
by Gov. Richard W. Riley. He served on the Governors Advisory Committee on
Workers Compensation under four governors.
He was a loyal
supporter and benefactor of Presbyterian College. He received an Honorary
Doctorate Degree in Public Service from the college in 2000.
Surviving are his children, Virginia Leaman Crocker of Columbia,
and his son and daughter-in-law, Claude Adair Crocker and Kristen Crocker,
of Clinton; and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his
brother, William Crocker; and a sister, Virginia Crocker
Satterfield.
