Elmer N. "Al" Corwin

Elmer N. "Al" Corwin, 76, of Geneva, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at his home.

He was born Dec. 3, 1926, in Newberg, N.Y., the son of Elmer and Sarah Corwin.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at Yurs-Wittenberg Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St. (Route 38), Geneva. Interment will be private at River Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Batavia.

Mr. Corwin served in the United States Army during World War II. After serving in the Army, he went to tryout camp for the New York Giants and was signed on the spot. He was a pitcher on the New York Giants from 1951 to 1954, winning the World Series in 1954. After a successful baseball career, he worked in the faucet industry, starting as a sales manager for Moen Faucet and, in 1994, retiring from Grohe Faucet Company as president and chief executive officer. He was also very involved with many different charities.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia; two children, Glen (Sandy) of Addison and Nancy (Kevin) Theisen of Batavia; two grandchildren, Courtney and Dylan Theisen; a sister, Harriet (Cliff) Conklin of Belton, Mo.; a brother, Richard of Nevada; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dawn Barr.
