(AP) - Don Carney, a TV producer and director responsible for the first instant replay in a baseball telecast, died Saturday (March 15)following a three-week battle with pneumonia. He was 79. Carney's career spanned nearly 40 years and he was best known for producing and directing New York Yankees broadcasts for more than three decades. He brought many innovative techniques to baseball broadcasts, including instant replay, the center field camera and on-field camera. Carney also produced and directed pro football, basketball, hockey, NCAA track and football, Notre Dame football and Golden Gloves boxing. |
