Fort Worth’s own baseball legend Bobby Bragan, 92, died Thursday night at his west side home, friends and officials said.

Emergency personnel were called to his home in the 5300 block of Collinwood Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead about 9 p.m., according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Web site.

Bragan was playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1948 when he was named manager of the Fort Worth Cats minor league team. He led the Cats to five consecutive winning seasons before returning to the majors as a manager.

After retirement, he made Fort Worth his home and became a goodwill ambassador for the city and minor league baseball.

His Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to eighth-graders.
