Atwell Jan 27, 2003 -- Maurice Dailey “Toby” Atwell Jr., 78, of Purcellville, died Saturday. Born in Leesburg, he played professional baseball for the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Braves from 1948 to 1955 and played in the 1952 All-Star Game. He is survived by his wife Katherine Atwell of Purcellville; sons Terry Lee Atwell of Elk Creek, Gary Fogle of Mississippi, Keith Fogle of Winchester and Michael Fogle of Mississippi; daughters Bonnie Flanagan of Richmond, Nancy Hambrecht of Palm Coast, FL, Vicky Cooley of Germantown, MD, Janet Carlise of Leesburg, Karen Rollison of Waterford and Mary Sure Mckimmey of Winchester; brother John A. Atwell of Lovettsville; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Hall Funeral Home in Purcellville. Interment will be private.
