Robert Earl
"Thin Man" Allen, 91, of the 1800 block of Ames Circle West,
died Oct. 30, 2005, in his residence. A native of McMinville, Tenn.,
he was a retired supervisor in Shop 72 at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Mr. Allen was a professional baseball player for the Philadelphia Phillies
in 1937. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and the Major League
Baseball Players Association.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy D. Allen; a daughter,
Wanda Allen Onhaizer and her husband Jerry of Chesapeake; two grandchildren,
Victoria and Emily; two stepgrandchildren, Casey and her husband Chris
and Kelly; and stepgreat-grandchild, Olivia.
He was predeceased by four brothers, James, Nelson, Carl and I.D. A
funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home,
Portsmouth Blvd. chapel, by the Rev. Gene V. Primm. Burial will be in
Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7
to 8 p.m. A special thanks to Missy Brewer and Judith Norwood for their
loving care.
