Passed away
Tuesday morning, January 7, 2003, at Saint Mary's hospital. Age 84 years.
Edward was born to Louis and Frances Albosta on October 27, 1918 in Saginaw,
living here all of his life. He married Bettye M. Christensen on May 1,
1942; she survives him.
He had been employed by Saginaw Steering Gear, retiring in 1985. He was
a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He served in the U.S.
Army from December of 1942 to October 1945.
He signed into professional baseball for the Tigers in 1938. He became
a free agent for the Dodgers and played in the International League in
Montreal and later played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He managed in the
Man- Dak League in Minot, North Dakota and Carman, Manitoba.
Surviving besides his wife, Bettye are two daughters, Betsy and James
Nyeste of Seven Valleys, Pa.; Bonnie and Donald Mercier of Saginaw; four
grandchildren, Brooke Ann and Steven Bock of Tyrone, Pa.; J. Andy and
Heather Nyeste of Red Lion, Pa.; Bylee Smith of Marquette, Mich.; Abigal
Smith of Saginaw; two great- grandchildren, Kathryn Bock and Iris Valentine;
a special friend and helper, Cris Hodges; his fishing buddies, Ray and
Betty Draus; special friend, Fritz Schnauzer; also many nieces and nephews.
Two brothers and four sisters predeceased him.
A special thanks to Dr. Henryk Pietrus and Dr. Al-rejleh and the nurses
of Saint Mary's hospital.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will take place in the spring at St. Anthony of Padua
with inurnment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
