MANNING, Martha Marty"
Marty passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2011 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Marty grew up on a farm near LaFleche. She moved to Moose Jaw, at seventeen,
to pursue her love of baseball with the Royals.
When the team folded she relocated to Edmonton where she won a trip to
South Bend, Indiana to try out for the All American Girls Professional
Baseball League and was successful. Playing for the Kenosha Comets, she
traveled throughout the States, pursuing her love of the sport.
During an exhibition game, the Comets beat the New York Yankees, to their
chagrin.
Marty was inducted into the American Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown,
the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and received a Certificate of Merit
from the Government of Canada for her contribution to sports and fitness.
Martha was a wonderful, loving person whose life touched many people.
Predeceased by three brothers, Valare, Albert and Omere, she is survived
by sons William and Raymond; daughter Lorelee; granddaughter Christine
(Kenton) Zablotsky and great-grandchildren Calla and Clark.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Marion Grande Amenities Room, 3605
Albert Street, Regina on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.
